POCAHONTAS Family Tree [ Heaving 2 Husbands and Raped]

Pocahontas Family Tree: Pocahontas was a native American from Pamunkey Tribe. she was born in 1596 in Werowocomoco ( Gloucester County, Virginia). She is best known for her association with English colonial settlement (at Powhatan). It was the first English settlement between England Englishmen and native Americans. She is also known for what she did with the Englishman James Smith. Pocahontas Saved the life of James Smith when he was captured by her uncle and was about to die.

Very little information is available about the Pamunkey Tribe where Pocahontas was born and raised. But Historians has finally agreed on some of the facts about the native Americans from this tribe.

There was confusion about the birthdate of Pocahontas but it's now widely accepted that she was born in 1596. Most of the people from Pamunkey Tribe is not known to the world.

But Pocahontas was the daughter of Pamunkey's Tribe leader " Powhatan, so there is some information that is available about Pocahontas Family tree.

2. Powhatan [Father of Pocahontas]


Powhatan was the father of Pocahontas. He was the chief of the native American tribe. In Pamunkey Tribe, there was the custom of having many wives at the same time so Powahatan also married many women.  Pocahontas was the darling child of Powhatan.

During the conflict between Englishmen and Native Americans. Powhatan refused to make any settlement with Englishmen and waged war against him.  John Smith was captured by Pamunkey Tribe and presented in front of Powhatan. Powhatan gave the order to execute John Smith. But Pocahontas saved him.

3. Opchanacanough [Uncle]


The only Uncle of Pocahontas was Opchanacanough. He was the younger brother of Powhatan. John Smith was captured by Opchanacanough. When England Englishmen started exploiting lands with many plantations around the Pamunkey Tribe.

It was Opchanacanough who took the responsibility of stopping them. Opchanacanough waged many wars against them to settle this issue. He was captured by Royal Governor William Berkeley in the third Anglo-Powhatan War. At this time Opchanacanough was around 90 years old. He was killed by soldiers in prison.

4. Nonoma Winanuske Matatiske [Mother]


Nonoma Winanuske Matatiske was the mother of Pocahontas. She was born in 1571 in Werowocomoco, Virginia, United States. She was one of the wives of Powhatan. Pocahontas was raised by her mother until she reached the age of 11. Nonoma Winanuske Matatiske (Pocahontas mother) died in 1618.

5. John Rolfe [husband]


Pocahontas was married to a man named Kocoum from Pamunkey tribe. This marriage was dissolved when Pocahontas was abducted by the English. During the conflict between English colonist and Pamunkey Tribe, Some Englishmen captured Pocahontas. They demanded heavy ransoms from her father in order to return her.
During her period of captivity, Pocahontas met an Englishman, John Rolfe. He was a tobacco planter. John Rolfe proposed Pocahontas for marriage. She agreed to become his wife and bore him one child Name Thomas Rolfe.

Many rumors claim that Pocahontas was raped in captivity.

6. Thomas Rolfe [Child]

Thomas Rolfe was the child of Pocahontas and John Rolfe. Thomas Rolfe was the husband of Jane Poythress. Thomas Rolfe had a daughter named Jane Rolfe. Jane Rolfe was the Granddaughter of Pocahontas. Thomas Rolfe lived an ordinary life. He married Jane Rolfe to Robert Bolling making him the son in law of Jane Poythress. Together they had a daughter named Jane Bolling.

7. Pocahontas descendants now


Pocahontas Descendants are traceable and still living in America. Although, their way of living is totally changed. Two of Pocahontas’s descendants have become the First Lady of the United States,  Edith Wilson, and Nancy Reagan. They were from the Pocahontas Family Tree.

8. Pocahontas Death and Conclusion


Pocahontas Family Tree is very large and known to the world. They did not disappear by time. Pocahontas and her husband went to England after the birth of Thomas Rolfe. There Pocahontas met her old friend John Smith who she once saved from execution. After spending several months in England, Pocahontas and John Rolfe boarded a ship in March 1617 to return to Virginia. Abroad the ship, Pocahontas fell seriously ill and died.

    Unfortunately, there is not a single site that has too much information about Pocahontas Ancestors. We combined the information from different sources and made this article after a deep research on the internet. We didn't get more than this, available on the internet.
