William Wallace Family Tree [Scottish Hero of 1296]

William Wallace Family Tree: William Wallace was a Scottish Knight, Patriot, Revolutionary Fighter born in 1270 in Elderslie, Scotland. He is considered as the hero of Scotland Freedom from England King Edward First.  After the death of King Alexander III of Scotland, Edward Falsely became the king of Scotland.

Scottish people could not stand by this selfishness and resisted the Edward First as King. William Wallace Fought with the English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in September 1297. Later of 1305, he was executed by Edward First. But after some years of Williams Execution, Scotland managed to get freedom from England.

One thing to know that there is very little information available about the William Wallace family Tree. The Main Source of Information is writings of Blind Harry's, Especially his 15th-century epic poem The Wallace.  This is the oldest written document that discloses a piece of limited information about William Wallace Family.

Till 1999, It was believed that William Wallace was the son of Malcolm Wallace. But in 1999, The seal of William Wallace that he gave on a letter disclosed that his father name was Alen Wallace. It is widely accepted and published on Wikisourse that Malcolm Wallace was the grandfather of William Wallace. However, there is a dispute regarding the name of his grandfather.

Great Grandfather of William Wallace was Adam Wallace. He was married o Christine Kilbane, (Great Grandmother of William Wallace). Richard Wallace was the great-great-grandfather of Malcolm Wallace(Grandfather of William Wallace).

3. Alan Wallace [Father]


Alan Wallace was the father of William Wallace. Alan was married to Margret Crawford in   in Parish of Kilmaurs.  William's father Alan was a knight like William Wallace.  He also appeared in the Ragman Roll of 1296 as "crown tenant of Ayrshire". William Wallace father Alan Wallace was killed in a skirmish by English troops at Loudoun Hill. It was the post-period of King Alexander III (After death).

4. Margaret Crawford [Mother]


Margaret Crawford, mother of William Wallace as well as sister of  Reginald Craufurd. Reginald was the aunt of William Wallace and Sister in Law of Alan Wallace. Margret and Reginald ware the daughters of Hugh Crawford (ugh Crawford) and Alicia De Dalsallock. Both were maternal Grandparents of William Wallace. In the entire family tree of William Wallace, Only Margaret Crawford is the undisputed figure.

5. Wife and Children


These are ongoing discussions and contradiction in this claim if William Wallace had any child or not. William Wallace was married to Marion Braidfute of Lamington. Marian was born to Hugh Braidfute of Lamington and Wife of Hugh Braidfute of Lamington. She had a sister named Marjorie, Heiress of Lamington.

William Wallace Wife Marion Braidfute was the mother of  Elizabeth Wallace, Heiress of Lamington. So, It can be said that William Wallace has a daughter named Elizabeth Wallace. William Baillie was the son in law of William Wallace. Baillie has married to Elizabeth Wallace and has a child.

Later on, Marion Braidfatu was killed by Sir William Heselrig an English Sherrif from England. William Wallace avenged his Wife's death by killing Heselrig.

6. Sibling of William Wallace


William Wallace was not the only son of his father and mother. William had two blood brother and a blood sister. The sister name is not known to anyone as it is not stated in any document related to William Wallace. But they only claim that Wallace has a sister too. The Brothers (siblings) of William Wallace were Malcolm Wallace and John Wallace. Malcolm was elder and John Wallace was the younger brother of William Wallace.
There is no living descendant of William Wallace as his Family tree is very complicated and less informative.

6. Conclusion


Due to very little information available about William Wallace. No one can claim that he is from William Wallace family Tree. Even the original date of the birth and childhood stories of his life is not known.  The only thing that makes William Wallace Great is his bravery against England in the Battle of Stirling Bridge. William's troops ware very low in numbers, yet they defeated the English army in one of the greatest Scottish victories in the Wars of Scottish Independence. William Wallace was executed on 23 August 1305.
